The ability of the door to stay afloat is only a minor concern. Records show that the temperature of the water at the time the titanic sunk was below freezing, approximately 28 degrees. Saturation in water at freezing temperatures can cause hypothermic death within 15 minutes to a half-hour.
If Jack’s weight was added to the door it may not have sunk, but it would have been submerged, along with Jack and Rose. Records show that rescue took approximately two hours to arrive, if both of them were lying in eight cm of freezing water, they would only have been able to do so for half an hour before dying of hypothermia.
Jack and Rose may have been able to fit together on the door, but neither would have survived long enough for rescue to arrive.
